Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian Cancer is a “True” women’s disease and unlike breast cancer, only women can get it. Breast cancer is important also as it affects many women, but it also affects men.
Ovarian Cancer is a “Silent Killer” and if not caught, is more deadly than breast cancer. I lost my Grandmother, Mary Elizabeth Jocius to Ovarian Cancer November 24, 2004 an hour and a half before Thanksgiving thanks to this silent killer. The doctors did not catch it on time and misdiagnosed her. They finally found out she had it and three weeks later to the day, she was gone.
The symptoms for this cancer are sometimes and most often confused with other problems….like bladder infections, or stomach problems. There are no real tests that can accurately check for this cancer and there needs to be more awareness out there!
Be honest ladies…..the last time you went for your annual check up with your gynecologist…..did they ask you or tell you that you should have a C-125 blood test to check for Ovarian Cancer? This test is not accurate, but could help. Did they ask you or tell you to get an transvaginal ultrasound to check for abnormalities for this cancer? Chances are you answered NO to these questions. These two tests should be MANDATORY during our annual checkups. They are not. You have to specifically ask for these tests and they can be expensive.
Did you know that having a hysterectomy does not improve your chances of never getting this cancer? You can still get it even if your ovaries are gone!
Breast cancer is a noble cause and I am very happy there is so much awareness concerning this issue! What about our inside areas? Don’t they deserve consideration too? There is hardly any research going on for this cancer! We need to raise the awareness for all women!
